If a student has struggled with mental health concerns in the past, it is advised that they have a plan in place when coming to Tuscaloosa. Like most places nationwide, local psychiatrists currently have months-long waitlists. If a student will need to see psychiatrist in Tuscaloosa, it is highly recommended they secure a practitioner BEFORE moving into a residence hall or apartment.

On-Campus Support

UA offers a variety of counseling services through the Counseling Center including one-on-one therapy, group sessions and more. Students can also find a local therapist through a resource offered by the Counseling Center called Thriving Campus. UA’s Student Health Center offers psychiatry appointments, but they also have a lengthy wait-list.
